Episode 29. An open discussion about sexual harassment and toxic workplace culture in the legal profession with Fiona Thatcher

About Our Guest:

Fiona is a Legal Counsel at The Guardian in London. She has had a phenomenal career in big law, public interest and in house across multiple industries.

She was the victim of sexual harassment in the workplace and has previously been interviewed on her experience dealing with the law firm’s internal complaints process.

In this episode, Fiona and Mel deep dive into the issue of toxic workplace culture, how sexual harassment is normalised in law firms and why ‘grey area's’ are incredibly problematic.

A Word from Mel:

I want to thank Fiona again for her courage and integrity. We spent some time together after the episode, so she wasn’t left alone after reliving that time. It is my honour to hold space for her.

I will admit I had my own reservations about publishing this episode, bolstered by the feminine urge to play small and be nice.

But with the collective uprising of Australian women like Fiona, Grace Tame and Brittany Higgins, I am inspired to play my small part in sharing hard stories. If nothing changes, nothing changes.
