About Mel

Mel Storey is a lawyer, mentor and content creator who has built a career at the intersection of law, leadership and modern career design.

She has worked across the private and corporate sectors, most recently as Head of Legal for the Asia-Pacific region at Pax8, a global technology marketplace. Over more than 15 years in the profession, Mel has led teams, advised executives and built high-trust partnerships across complex global organisations.

Mel has previously been awarded the Queensland Law Society’s In House Lawyer of the Year, Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel 30 Under 30 Award and Modern Counsel Global Legal Leaders Award.

She has served as a Member of the Association of Corporate Counsel National Conference Committee, as the In-House Advisor to the Women Lawyers Association Queensland and currently serves on the Board of the Centre for Legal Innovation Emerging Leaders Advisory Group and the Board of Belloo Theatre Company.

Through her platform The In House Lawyer and her mentoring brand Career Big Sis, Mel helps lawyers navigate their careers with clarity, confidence and purpose. Her work blends practical guidance with lived experience, often speaking candidly about burnout, leadership and the evolving identity of lawyers in a changing world.

Mel’s writing, workshops and digital resources have reached thousands of lawyers across Australia and beyond. Her approach is built on a simple belief: you can build a respected legal career and still have a joyful, colourful life.

When she’s not teaching or writing, Mel hosts the Counsel Podcast, shares insights on LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok (@theinhouselawyer) and develops modern career tools for lawyers under her media venture, Counsel Media.

She lives in Brisbane, Australia.
